This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with cleaning activities in homes, offices and commercial premises.

Policy Statement

Responsibilities and Management

Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management of Bermondsey Carpet Cleaning. Management will ensure that appropriate resources, equipment, training and supervision are provided so that work can be carried out safely.

Employees at every level are required to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. All staff must cooperate fully with company procedures and report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly to management.

Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices, checking that risk controls are in place and effective, and ensuring that health and safety standards are maintained at all client sites.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

Bermondsey Carpet Cleaning will identify and assess the risks arising from our carpet, upholstery and rug cleaning activities. Risk assessments will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes to equipment, chemicals, premises or methods of work.

Safe systems of work will be implemented for tasks such as hot water extraction, spot and stain treatment, use of rotary machines, furniture moving and work in communal or shared areas. Staff are required to follow these procedures at all times and not to undertake any task for which they have not been properly trained or authorised.

Where risks cannot be eliminated through other means, Bermondsey Carpet Cleaning will provide suitable personal protective equipment. This may include gloves, eye protection, protective footwear, face coverings or other items appropriate to the task and environment.

Employees must use the equipment provided, keep it in good condition, and report any damage or defects immediately so that it can be repaired or replaced before further use.

Equipment Safety and Maintenance

Carpet and upholstery cleaning often requires moving equipment, furniture and cleaning materials. Bermondsey Carpet Cleaning provides training on safe manual handling techniques, including correct lifting, carrying and pushing methods to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

Where possible, mechanical aids, team lifts or alternative methods will be used to avoid heavy or awkward lifting and to minimise strain on staff working in confined or multi-level properties.

Health, Hygiene and Welfare

We recognise the importance of good personal hygiene in cleaning operations. Staff are encouraged to maintain high standards of cleanliness, wash hands regularly, and use suitable protective clothing when handling soiled materials, waste or chemicals.

Illnesses, medical conditions or injuries that could affect an employee’s ability to work safely must be reported to management. Appropriate adjustments, such as modified duties or temporary reassignment, will be considered where reasonably practicable.

Where necessary, we will update our procedures, training and equipment to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards and best practice.
